'Dry Days' in 47 Upper Assam Constituencies from 6 pm today

GUWAHATI: 'Dry Days' in 47 Upper Assam Assembly Constituencies spread across 12 districts will begin at 6 pm in the evening today.

The 'dry days' will begin at 6 pm today in Upper Assam areas that are going to polls in the first phase of the Assam Assembly elections.

The 48-hour ban on alcohol shall begin at at 6 pm and end at 6 pm on the day of the election.

The selling of liquor, delivery of spirituous, distilled, or intoxicating liquors, or other drugs in a hotel, public eating venue, bar, store, or any other place within a polling area will be completely prohibited, the government has informed.

In the Constituencies that shall head to the booths in the second phase, the order will be in place from 6 pm, March 30 till 6 pm, April 1.

Dry days will be from 6 pm on April 4 to 6 pm on April 6 in the Constituencies going to the polls in the third phase.

The dry day will remain effective on the day of the counting of votes as well, that is on May 2.

The liquor ban will remain in place during re-polls also.

Moreover, during the dry days, Assam Governor Jagadish Mukhi has made it illegal for anyone or a group of people to possess any intoxicants.

With an aim of ensuring the smooth conduct of the Assembly election in Assam, the state government has announced dry days for 48 hours during all three phases of the upcoming Assam Assembly polls. During this period, the selling and consumption of alcohol shall be completely prohibited.
