Guwahati, September 15, 2019:

An Indian Army dog "Dutch", who was born on April 3, 2010 at the RVC Centre & College, Meerut, has breathed his last. Dutch was one of the most decorated dogs in the Indian Army and served the nation for 9 years as a 'explosive detection specialist' in the thick of 'counter-terrorist operations' for the Eastern command.

In one of his most memorable 'sniff-downs', the Labrador was instrumental in successful identification of an IED weighing 6 kilos in a public bus, at Goalpara district of Assam, on December, 2014.

Similarly, in November 2014, during the visit of then Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh in Guwahati, he performed outstandingly in capturing an IED weighing 7 kilos in a coach of Kamakhya Express at Alipurdwar which saved many lives and public properties. Through the years, Dutch, and others of his kind, have been performing silently as true soldiers in service to the nation. These dogs are some of the unsung heroes who help us sleep peacefully at nights.

The brave dog-warrior, Dutch, was a pioneer in receiving appreciation of GOC–in-C Eastern Command on two separate occasions. Dutch died of natural causes on 11 September 2019 after providing nine long years of service to the nation. It can be said that the army dog, Dutch, lived a life full of purpose. RIP Dutch.
