ECI bans exit polls results publication, broadcast between March 27 & April 29

GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has notified period between 7 am on March 27 and 7.30 pm on April 29 as the prohibition period for conducting any exit poll in connection with the state elections and publishing or publicising it.

In its notification under provisions of Sub-Section (1) of Section 126A and Sub-Section-(2) of the Representation of People Act, 1951, the ECI has notified that no exit poll can be published, broadcast by means of print or electronic media or dissemination in any other manner shall remain prohibited during the said period.

The ECI has further prohibited the display of any election matter, including results of any opinion poll or any other survey, in any electronic media, during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for conclusion of polls in the respective polling areas in connection with elections to the Assam assembly.
