Election official dies on poll duty in Sonari

SONARI: An election official has died on duty at Salkathoni polling station in Sonari constituency of Charaideo district while polling for the first phase of the Assam assembly election is underway.

The deceased officer has been identified as Tulsi Khanikar.

Khanikar was appointed at No 187 polling station.

His health suddenly deteriorated after which he was immediately rushed to a hospital in Dibrugarh. The official, however, passed away on the way to hospital.

Voting for a total of 47 constituencies is underway in 12 districts of Upper Assam.

The first phase of the poll has seen 62.09 per cent voter turnout so far.
