Elephant cub stuck in Deepor Beel, rescue operations underway

Guwahati, May 10, 2019:

In yet elephant-related incident, an elephant cub got stuck at the wetland Deepor beel on Thursday night. The cub had come down from the nearby mountain with its herd in search of food.

The rescue operation for the elephant cub is in the process by the Forest officials and NDRF personnel.

However, progress could not be made due to the excessive growth of “Meteka” (water hyacinth) in the beel.

Meanwhile, a few officials of the forest department who are engaged in the rescue operations are stuck in the beel because of the hyacinth since early morning.
