Former Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi on Monday clarifies that the Congress party will form an alliance with any political party except for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
Addressing the media, Tarun Gogoi said, “BJP is carrying out divide and rule policy. They are trying to come into power again by creating unstable situation in the state. Despite of the massive protests carried out by the different political parties and people of the North East, BJP National president Amit Shah has announced to bring the Bill while attending a gathering at Lakhimpur in Assam.”
Clarifying that other than BJP and AIUDF, Congress has open hand for alliance with any political parties; Gogoi said that whatever work has been done by the congress, the BJP is only taking credit of it. All the bridges that have been built above the Brahmaputra were sectioned during the period of Congress government.
Regarding the Bharat Ratna, the former CM said, “BJP is trying to fool the people of Assam by offering Bharat Ratna to Dr Bhupen Hazarika. If they really respect Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Gopinath Bordoloi, then why are they trying to amend the Bill and hurting the sentiments of Assamese people?”
