Exclusive| Ex-BSF jawan threatens suicide if Citizenship Bill is passed

Guwahati, January 28, 2019:

As the protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 continue to be held across the state, Bimal Chandra Borkakoty, an ex-BSF HC/RO jawan from Barangabari of Morigoan district made headlines when he threatened to commit suicide along with his family members if the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 is passed in Parliament.

In the letter, he states: “Government of India is adamant to pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, has passed it with majority votes of BJP MPs in Lok Sabha and doing nasty politics to pass the same in Rajya Sabha. Therefore if the bill is passed I, Bimal Chandra Borkakoti threatens to suicide along with the family members. The Bangladeshi’s if given citizenship will become rulers of Assam. The elected Government is not giving any importance to our voice, therefore I think under these circumstances I should not live alive.”

The CAB protester reached the Guwahati High Court this afternoon to submit his suicide letter, but the apex court in the state did not receive his suicide letter.

Borkakoty has also promised to write to the President of India and Supreme Court for this purpose.
