Guwahati, May 19, 2019:

As per the exit polls released after the conclusion of the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP party and its NDA allies are expected to dominate the Lok Sabha elections in Assam and Northeast.

As of now, out of the total 14 parliamentary seats in Assam, BJP has held seven parliamentary seats; AIUDF and Congress has three each, and Kokrajhar's Independent candidate Naba Sarania has one.

After the results are declared, the picture is expected to change.

As per Chanakya-News24 survey, BJP is likely to win 10 parliamentary constituencies, Congress may win 3 seats and one may go to one of the other parties in Assam.

As per ABP Nielsen survey, of the total 25 seats in the Northeast, BJP and its allies may win 13 parliamentary seats; while the Congress and others may bag six each.

In Assam, the National Democratic Alliance is expected to pick up 8-10 seats, with the Congress restricted to single digits, according to the News18-IPSOS exit poll.

Meanwhile, the Congress party will heave a sigh of relief as the Times Now-CNX poll has prognosticated that the BJP and its allies will win only 1 seat, while the Congress will win 7, and others will win one.

The elections in eight northeastern states were held over three phases from April 11 to April 23. The counting of votes will be taken up on May 23.

It may be mentioned that the exit polls is not always a correct parameter to judge which party will prevail in the election. The drama and suspense will continue till the ballots are counted on May 23 and the votes are counted.
