GUWAHATI: Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis today called the Congress-led grand alliance for Assam assembly elections a ‘Mahakhot’.

“Look, this is not Mahajath, it’s Mahakhot. Sare ke sare khote log ek saath aye hain (All the notorious people have come together). And, the ideal election agenda should be progress, security and growth, but their only agenda is to defeat BJP. For that they would go to any extent,” Fadnavis said here today.

“But, the people of Assam will reject this Mahakhot and bless the BJP instead,” he added.

The Congress has allied with six other parties, including the All India United Democratic Front, Bodoland People’s Front and Left parties. The others are CPI, CPI (M), CPI (M-L) and Anchalik Gana Morcha.

“I am happy that the opposition is also accepting the fact that the BJP will retain power in Assam. Senior opposition leader Sharad Pawar made a statement the other day that BJP will win in Assam, but not in other states. Although I don’t agree completely with him and would like to tell him that BJP will win in other states as well. But, when Pawarji is accepting it in case of Assam, I am sure the BJP will register a massive win in Assam,” the senior BJP leader said.

“I feel the BJP enjoys the people’s undivided love and support because of the exemplary COVID-19 management. I’ve observed that the testing and contact tracing in Assam is outstanding in the country,” he added.
