GUWAHATI: A 'fake news' regarding opening of educational institutions in Assam has been doing rounds on social media platforms, informed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday.

A screenshot of a tweet from the Chief Minister's handle stating that schools are not going to open from September 1 in the state, has been creating confusion among netizens and students.

This comes after the Assam cabinet approved the reopening of educational institutions in the state from September 1 on Thursday.

Taking to twitter, the Chief Minister wrote, "A fake announcement, purportedly issued from my Twitter account, about non opening of schools is being circulated on WhatsApp."

This is an important announcement that schools are not going to open from September. It is postponed to November as Covid cases in the state are not yet controlled, further details will be announced", read 'fake' tweet.

"This is a fake message and should not be given heed to", wrote the CM further.

He also urged Assam police to file an First Information Report (FIR) against the culprits.

Replying to the CM, Assam Police tweeted, " Sir. As directed, a case is being taken up at Crime Branch, Guwahati."

The education minister Ranoj Pegu had earlier announced that only the 10th, 12th and under graduate and post-graduate final year classes will begin from September 1.

The minister stated it is mandatory for all the students above 18 to be administered with at least the first jab of COVID-19 vaccine. While the students staying in hostels will have to be fully vaccinated.

It is mandatory for all the teachers and other staff t be vaccinated, stated the education minister.

The detailed SoP for the students and educational institutions will be issued on August 30.
