Amidst the hustle and spate of protests in the state against the proposed citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, the CM Sarbananda Sonowal’s statements on the bill has sparked sensation in the state.

Sarbananda Sonowal,  the helmsman of the repudiation of the IM(DT) act, which earned him the title of Jatiya Nayak had  long been playing the role of a mere spectator regarding the bill until yesterday. The steadfast silence was put to an end when the Chief Minister  organized an Editor’s meet on 13th May. His statement where he said that it makes no sense for him to remain the Chief Minister if the interest of the State is unattended to. Such an ambiguous statement is doing the rounds across the state.

Speaking to Inside NE,  Ajit Bhuyan, editor in chief of Prag news stated that the Chief Minister has asked upon the editors to convey their views on the bill. He stated that CM has also made assurance  to take their suggestions into account. He further stated” CM has given assurance to probe into the matter, however he also stated that if he isn't efficient enough to work for and safeguard the people of Assam,  then he isn't worthy to hold on to the position of Chief Minister”.

While in conversation with Anuradha Sarma Pujari, editor of Sadin and satsori,  she stated” CM said that he will never go against the interest of the people of Assam and it is only due to his interference that JPC has agreed upon to come to Assam for the hearing”. When asked upon CM’s take on the bill she stated “ Sarbananda Sonowal said that if the interests of the People are not accomplished,  there is no point in being the Chief Minister. “

While in reference to a video of Hello NorthEast which was published soon after the elections of 2016,Sonowal stated lucidly that the election manifesto of 2016  had in it the assurance to work for the people and to safeguard it's rights and the people trusted upon them and it is only the faith of the people that rose them to power.

Such an enigma engulfing the Statement of Sonowal then and now has given rise to a number of questions and it is high time for people to decide whether to buy or not such vagueness as their own fate is attached to it
