Sanjay Gohain, a home guard, who earlier went viral for collecting 'Gunda tax' for fish sellers in an expletives-laden video, has been arrested. This was confirmed by Dibrugarh SP Gautam Bora.
"As soon as we saw the video, we launched an investigation to ascertain the cop's identity. He was soon identified as Sanjay Gohain, a home guard working under the Lahowal Police Station in Dibrugarh. He was now been arrested."
It may be mentioned that police personnel, allegedly belonging to the Assam Police, can be witnessed taking bribe 'Gunda tax' video that is quickly going viral on social media.
The video, shot from the camera of a person travelling in a truck, shows the vehicle being stopped by a policeman. The policeman then goes on to demand a sum of Rs. 300 from the duo travelling in the truck, and states that it is the standard rate for vehicles selling fish.
Although the date and location of the video has not been ascertained, this is a classic case of those in power abusing that very power. Moreover, police in Assam charging exorbitant sums of money from passing vehicles at 'gates' is a tale as old as time itself.
This incident has been widely condemned by social media users, and the unknown policeman has received severe criticism for his lust for money, as well as filthy tongue.
