The prices of fuel have skyrocketed again much to the chagrin of the consumers. On Friday, petrol is being sold at Rs.82.34 a litre and diesel Rs.75.34 in Assam capital Guwahati.
In contrast, the prices of petrol and diesel in Delhi are Rs.79.99 and Rs.72.07 respectively. In Mumbai, the price of petrol is Rs.87.39 a litre and diesel Rs.76.51.
The shooting prices are attributed to intense rise in international crude prices and drastic fall in the exchange value of rupee against the US dollar. Given that the rising prices leave a cascading effect, the prices of all other items, particularly essential commodities, are set to go up.
