Guwahati, January 5, 2020:

Fashion Designer and Zubeen Garg’s better half, Garima Saikia Garg has called upon the people to unite and take the responsibility of saving the language and culture of Assam.

Garg has been vocal about the government’s role in preserving the Assamese language and cultural identity. However, this time, she has called upon the public to show some responsibility and preserve the language, which is at stake.

While addressing a cultural protest gathering against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act at Guwahati’s Jalukbari, Garg said that if the Assamese language has to be revived and the young generation has to be more active, the parents, the guardians and the elderly have to be cautious and promote the language. She said that the Assamese-medium schools have to be revived and promoted.

“The government schools were performing very well during our days. The results were remarkable. However, you can see what their conditions are now. Except 2-3 Assamese medium schools, the condition is pitiful. Be it private ones or government-run. Why has it come to this? Isn’t it our fault?” questioned Garima Saikia Garg.

Garima has urged the people to come up in support of the Assamese language and preserve it by continuing to profess it. Promotion and preservation is required at this juncture, said Garima.

“We will have to be alert. We will have to be together. Our land is ours forever. We will have to take the resolution that we won’t let an inch to them. If we stay alert, there will be no need for another Andolan 10 years down the line,” she added.
