Gauhati University students allegedly thrash Assam man teaching in China

Guwahati, May 9, 2019:

The students of Gauhati University of Assam allegedly man-handled a teacher employed in China who visited the university with his father, a retired professor of Gauhati University.

The man identified as Pranab Kumar Baruah suddenly felt sick and visited the university hospital for a check-up.

According to a student of the university, the incident occurred after an argument broke out between Baruah and some hostel students over the queue. One of the students tried to enter the hospital without standing in the queue after which Baruah confronted him. As a consequence of this, the other students ganged up against him and thrashed him.

Following this, Baruah has filed an FIR against the students at the Jalukbari Police Outpost.

Speaking to Inside North East, the IC of Jalukbari Outpost, Bijit Pegu confirmed the incident and said that the FIR has been lodged by both the parties.

As per Baruah’s FIR, the students who were alleged of man-handling the man were from the University Law College.
