GUWAHATI: Principal secretary (industries and commerce) to Assam government KK Dwivedi today said this is the “golden time” to start entrepreneurship in Assam.
Addressing the launch of Margdarshak Advisory, a startup to counsel new entrepreneurship, the senior bureaucrat said the Assam government has created such an entrepreneurship friendly atmosphere in the state that anybody can start any enterprise with the least efforts.
“We have come across all sorts of problems in Assam as far as entrepreneurship is concerned. From banks’ reluctance to finance to government office redtapism to dearth of land for industrialisation, people whom we trained up to be entrepreneurs have reported us a long list of issues that impeded entrepreneurship in Assam. We formulated one policy after another and finally we have created an atmosphere conducive for entrepreneurship.

“We now have at least 70 industrial parks in Assam where starting entrepreneurship is really very easy and profitable. It’s in fact the golden time to start entrepreneurship in Assam,” Dwivedi said.
He also said that the banks in Assam have been maintaining a credit ratio of only 40 per cent which was another impediment for entrepreneurship in the state.
Arunachal Pradesh agriculture, horticulture, veterinary and animal husbandry minister Tage Taki, who also attended the programme also said there was actually no dearth of land for entrepreneurship in the Northeast. “Even in Assam 60 per cent of land is lying vacant which can be used for agriculture, horticulture and allied sectors entrepreneurship,” he said.

“Since food is the basic need of mankind, agri-based industry can always be sustainable. The idea is to produce raw materials locally for sustenance of any industry,” he added.
Taki also said since road connectivity has developed in the Northeast, the region has become a green pasture for entrepreneurship. “Transportation is a basic necessity for industrialization. Since the sector has improved manifold, it’s time for entrepreneurship to grow,” he added.
Earlier, insidene.in editor in chief Sriparna Bhuyan Baruah stressed on the need for networking to excel in entrepreneurship. “Networking helps a lot in entrepreneurship,” she said.

Speaking on the role of Margdarshak Advisory, she said: “Through Margdarshak Advisory, we would look to connect the dots in entrepreneurship development.”
