Goods train derails near Guwahati, rail link disrupted

Guwahati (Assam), Aug 25, 2018:

At least 15 wagons of a goods train derailed near Chandrapur Panbari area here a few moments ago, disrupting rail communication completely of Upper Assam and Barak Valley, besides neighbouring Manipur and Tripura, with rest of the country.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) sources said the goods train was coming from Lumding to Guwahati before it got derailed. The cause of the derailment is being ascertained.

Now, following the incident, all passenger trains have been controlled at various stations.

An NFR official explained that the priority now was in restoring the rail link and claimed that men were at work on the ground to restore the track.
