IS GOVERNMENT IMPOSING LEGALIZED RANSOM ON THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY?

The Assam Legislative Assembly speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami while inaugurating Tockloi bridge reportedly told the business community of Jorhat to donate funds for the development works that are to be done in their respective areas.  The community comprising mostly of Hindi speaking businessman is fuming. Goswami allegedly said that the business community at Jorhat had not kept to their promise of giving money for making the road in their locality for which they would be made to face the consequences.

Goswami further citing the examples of the construction of schools, colleges and hospitals outside the state  asked the business community to raise funds for such construction in the state.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee in strict words condemned the statements made by the State Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami and demands a public clarification by the speaker on the entire matter.Congress further alleged that the BJP Government after coming to power in the state have tactically targeted various linguistic minorities and certain specific community people, destroying the very rich culture and unity amongst the people of the State.

Congress also alleges that to attract business houses and investors to invest money in Assam Government organises ‘Advantage Assam’ global investors summit and on the other hand the Government representative is threatening the local business community to raise funds to meet various development works in their locality.
