Guwahati, November 17, 2019:

Months have passed since the publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) but as many as 6,700 contractual employees are yet to receive their salaries.

According to reports, around 5,500 contractual employees from WIPRO are also yet receive their dues. Due to nonpayment of salaries, the workers have also stopped their work at the NRC Seva Kendras.

It may be mentioned here that the former state NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela was recently replaced by Hitesh Dev Sarma, who also went on a leave for a month. The NRC process is currently without a monitor and the employees are without salaries.

The absence of the State Coordinator and nonpayment of salaries may affect the NRC process and the Rejection Notice for over 19 lakh people is likely delayed in such a state.

Meanwhile, the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) Chief Akhil Gogoi has blamed the central government for non-payment of the salaries. “It is unfortunate that the state and central BJP governments have not done anything to release their salaries. It is a conspiracy,” he said.

He also said that the government should release the salaries of all the employees associated with the NRC process at the earliest or else it would be a disgrace to the entire Assamese community.
