Guwahati, November 4, 2018:
As the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, becomes the most controversial issue for the people of Assam with the fear of being a minority in their own state, Gunotsav has triggered yet another controversy.
Surprisingly, most of the banners of the event were found to be printed in Bengali despite the schools being affiliated to Assamese medium.
Several districts in the state are celebrating Gunotsav, but this year's celebration has triggered a controversy where the banners and in some cases even instructions were printed in Bengali whereas, the schools were affiliated to Assamese medium.
Even in Kamrup district, few Assamese schools had their banners in Bengali.
Speaking to InsideNE, Shrutimala Duarah, professor, Handique Girls' College said that the school which she visited on account of Gunotsav was a Bengali medium school and so a Bengali banner is a acceptable.
However, she added that one of her colleagues who went to an Assamese medium school found the banner written in Bengali.
She added that this might be a mistake by the administration as well as the school authotities.
The school authorities should have at least objected to the banners.
Following this, a section of people have claimed that Bengali banners in the schools might be a sort of conspiracy. Some even claimed that the government itself is involved in the act.
However, Mission Director of Sarba Sikhsha Abhiyan, Aruna Rajoria could not be contacted for her statement on the issue despite repeated attempts.
