In a sensational incident, a man from Guwahati was tied to a tree and allegedly thrashed for allegedly molesting a woman in her early 20s, whose family provided him shelter for a night in their house.
This sensational incident took place near Mehtab Bagh slum area of Itmad-ud-Daula police jurisdiction early on Sunday.
The man has been identified as Jalaluddin (28) and was later booked under IPC section 354
(assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).
However, no FIR was lodged against any person who thrashed Jalaluddin for molesting the woman.
Local officials have said that the Guwahati man Jalaluddin was tied to a tree by local residents and the woman’s relatives so that he does not run away before the arrival of the police team They have claimed that he was not assaulted.
During interrogation, Jalaluddin claimed that while travelling in train a man snatched his
phone near Yamuna Bridge railway station. The unknown man ran towards Mehtab Bagh.
Jalaluddin too jumped off the train and ran after him. Unable to find the man, the accused
took shelter in a local slum dwellers’ hut. But later at night, he tried to molest the daughter
of a man who gave him shelter for night stay.
Jalaluddin has been sent to prison.
