Guwahati Prepares for Republic Day Celebrations amid Protests over 'CAA'

Guwahati, January 21, 2020:

Preparations for the 70th Republic Day are on full swing in Guwahati city amid the ongoing agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA.

Guwahati, Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu informed that the Assam Rifles will be leading the Republic Day parade this year at the Khanapara Veterinary College Ground.

“Like every year, the Indian Air Force will carry out flypast for the rose petals showering. The cultural affairs department is also looking into the programs to ensure that the cultural event turns out to be successful,” said Pegu, while addressing a press conference in Guwahati.

The DC has called for more participation from students on Republic Day. He also informed that they have written to the ASTC to provide for free transportation on the day. “When we were kids, were provided with free transportation. So, we would surely request them to provide free transportation on the Republic Day,” Pegu added.

The Kamrup (Metro) DC has also informed that security has also been taken care of for the Republic Day. CCTV cameras have been set up to ensure security of the people.
