GUWAHATI: Private hospitals in Assam’s Guwahati are likely to tie up with the nearby hotels to fight against the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic by converting the hotels into observation centres to accommodate the increasing number of asymptotic patients.
In this regard, the state health department has already urged the district authorities to investigate the possibility of converting hotels near hospitals into assessment centres in order to accommodate the increasing number of asymptotic patients.

However, the state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the health of the patients who are from below poverty line (BPL) families will be monitored by the hospitals constantly, but they will just have to pay the rent of the hotels.
Besides the available medical facilities, the government will also provide ambulances in at the hotels, in case there will be a need to shift patients to hospitals.
It is worth mentioning that the option of preferring hotels over hospitals will be available only to asymptomatic patients who can afford to pay hotel rent, said minister Sarma.
