KOKRAJHAR: Politicking is once again gaining traction in the Bodo belt of Assam, with Kokrajhar MP and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) supremo Naba Sarania stating the former Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary can join his party if things do not work out with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Sarania, addressing a presser, said that nothing is certain in politics. "Earlier, the BPF was in alliance with the ruling party but now it isn't. Now, the UPPL is there but no one knows till when.."
"Whatever be it -- people all like his (Hagrama Mohilary's) simplicity. Although politically he has not even given us even blankets and needles," the MP said, adding that he wishes Hagrama success in his career as a politician.
"Today, he is BJP. If tomorrow he does not feel comfortable in the BJP, he may wish to switch and for that we are willing to welcome him," he said.

Mohilary's Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has extended a hand of friendship to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in an obvious bid to return to ruling BJP fold as an ally after walking out of the Congress-led “Mahajot” (Grand Alliance) which came into existence just before the Assembly elections in March this year.
The BPF, which won 3 consecutive elections in the Bodo Council, was finally removed from power after the BJP and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) parties joined forces with Sarania's GSP to form a majority in the 40-member Council.
A few days ago Assam Congress decided to sever ties with AIUDF. The exit of BPF, another big ally, has come as a major setback to the alliance of Opposition political parties just before bypolls in six Assembly constituencies in Assam.
In a related development, Emmanuel Mosahary, former Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MLA from Tamulpur constituency, who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on November 22 last year in Kumarikata with MP of Rajya Sabha Biswajit Daimary, has written a letter to NDA Chairperson Amit Shah dated on September 9 demanding to field BJP candidates for the Tamulpur and Gossaingaon constituencies in the upcoming by-election.
