GUWAHATI: Things have gotten heated up between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sibsagar legislator Akhil Gogoi yet again as both the political rivals have chosen to take jibes at each other inside the Assam Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

During the assembly session, Akhil Gogoi came down heavily on the Public Works Department and alleged that the department takes two per cent illegal commission for every work. Notably, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also holds the portfolio of PWD Minister.

Gogoi's allegations did not seem to go well with Sarma. He mockingly said to Gogoi, “I don’t have the audacity to say that I am the most honest person in Assam politics.”

Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday called himself to be the 'most honest' politician denying AIUDF’s allegations against Gogoi of demanding Rs. 10 crore to join the Congress-led grand alliance.

Without spending a second thought, Gogoi replied to CM Sarma, "You can never say that as you have some gondoguls (amiss) in your part."

Gogoi's statement added fuel to the fire that was already simmering among the BJP legislators. They demanded Gogoi renounce his statement immediately and not to repeat again.

Sarma on the other did not seem to lose his cool for a second and instead took a jibe at Gogoi with a smiling face and said, "One day we will talk in front of all Gauhati Medical College & Hospital staff and they will confirm who is what."

Akhil Gogoi got arrested during the protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in December 2019 and later admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital where he stayed till his release on July 1, 2021

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mocked Gogoi saying that as he has some desire to be on his (CM’s) chair, he can talk whenever he may get there. Sarma asked Gogoi not to create chaos by sitting and commenting there.

BJP legislators also mocked Akhil Gogoi as 'Mamata Banerjee's advocate' since he decided to extend his support to Banerjee and said he wanted to see her as India's next Prime Minister.
