HIKE IN GUWAHATI CITY BUS FARES FROM OCTOBER 3

Guwahati, October 1, 2018:

The private city bus service in Guwahati will increase its fare from October 3.

The minimum bus fare to be paid by passengers is Rs 7. For minimum distance of 3km the fare would be Rs 7, 3km to 5km would be Rs 8, 5km to 9km would be Rs 12, 9km to 13km would be Rs 15, 13km to 17km would be Rs 18, 17km to 21km would Rs 21, 21km to 25km would be Rs 23.

Leena Saha, a daily city bus passenger said, “I travel from Basistha Chariali to Survey everyday to my office in city buses. The increase in bus fare will have a lot of effect in common people’s daily budget”. There has been continuous increase in all essential commodity and fares, but the salary remains the same,” she added.

Ajay Baruah, another passenger travelling from Narengi to Survey everyday to his office said that he already have to change two buses and the increase in bus fare would to his woes.

Speaking to InsideNe, General Secretary of Guwahati Transport  Association, Pradip Das, said that the bus operators have been compelled to hike fares owing to the unabated rise in diesel prices.

However, speaking to InsideNe, Jiten Medhi, Divisional Engineer cum Division Superintendent of Assam State Transport (ASTC) City Service Division has informed that no orders to increase the bus fares have been passed so far. Although the authority has approached the government to increase the fare as it is not possible to run buses in the street with the increasing diesel prices.
