In an interesting development, an Assam girl who was kidnapped in Hojai district of Assam has been traced in Maharashtra. This information was relayed by Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through his Twitter account.
Biswa Sarma tweeted: "A young girl Geeta (name changed) kidnapped on June 12 from Jamunamukh, District - Hojai by one Md Jabed Ahmed has been traced to, and rescued from a hotel in Nashik in Maharashtra. I thank Assam Police for this good work."
Twitterati reacted to this announcement by Himanta, but some were skeptical of the news and claimed that the girl could possibly have 'eloped' with the alleged kidnapper.
User Mafuzur Rahman wrote: "Kidnapped or eloped? My pulsar bike stolen, CCTV footage submitted to police but couldn't trace the culprit yet."
Another user, Kuldeep Deka, stated the need to eradicate 'love jihad'. "Sir it's time to form anti Romeo squad or taking bold step in Assam since incidents like love jihad & mind hacking of innocent girls increases and also should exposed that system which inspire youth to do love jihad....I am"
Another user, Manoj Chetri, blamed the entire incident on a particular community. "Once again culprit is belong to very special community", he wrote.
It may be mentioned that the BJP campaign in Assam, in which Himanta Biswa participated with great gusto, was instrumental in re-consolidating the Hindu community’s vote in Assam and prepared the groundwork for their political mobilisation. The occasion for this was provided when the Muslim-centric All Indian United Democratic Front decided not to put candidates against the Congress in most constituencies. Eventually, the BJP was able ton win nine seats in Assam.
