KOKRAJHAR: Bodoland People's Front (BPF) supremo Hagrama Mohilary today claimed that Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Promod is running a puppet government and Himanta Biswa Sarma is, in fact, the de facto ruler of the Council.

"Promod Boro is CEM only in name. Himanta Biswa Sarma is actually running the government and he is the actual Chief. He is the man behind every move of the BTC Council", Mohilary told reporters on the sidelines of the 19th Bodoland Day celebrations.

Asked about the possibility of his BPF party again forming the government, Mohilary said, "Who else can form the government?"

Mohilary also said that the BJP party must be removed after the ensuing Assembly elections. "By the end of the month, we will also announce which parties we will forge an alliance with," the former Chief further informed.

It needs mention here that the new BTC council was formed by the BJP-UPPL-GSP with 22 members. UPPL had won 12 seats, GSP won one seat, BJP had won nine seats in the BTC.

The lone elected member from the Congress and another from the BPF defected to the BJP later to join the UPPL-led alliance.

BPF had emerged as the single largest party with 17 seats for the 40-member Council but BJP took the lead to form the Council with support from UPPL and GSP.

The BPF, which is a constituent of Assam's BJP-headed coalition government, ruled BTC for 17 years since its formation in 2003 as a political solution to the Bodo agitation for a separate state.
