All Assam Students' Union (AASU) leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Tuesday slammed Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and alleged that he has scant regard for the spirit of "democracy".
Talking to Inside Northeast Gogoi alleged that the Minister is making the disagreements over the 'jatiya' issue between him and the indigenous organizations out to be something "personal".

"Fear is not a factor here...this is nothing personal. This is a jatiya matter", Gogoi said, reacting to Himanta Biswa Sarma's recent statement in which he had claimed that he is not 'scared' of senior, middle, or junior Gogoi.
(Note: Various sections of the media have conjectured that this is an indirect jibe at Congress leader Tarun Gogoi, KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi, and Lurin himself).
The AASU leader also alleged that the Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is making these statements as he does not possess a "democratic mindset".

"The term 'fear' implies to him only...whatever is going on, regarding the CAA, among other things, it is the will of the people...the will of democracy. We are simply taking part in these uprisings as it is an issue that will determine the fate of the 'jati'. However, Himanta believes in inciting fear to fulfill his agenda", Lurin further alleged.
Taking affront at the usage of his Ahom surname to make an attack, Lurin said: "The surname 'Gogoi' depicts an Ahom, and using that to cuss at someone is unacceptable, to say the very least. This is a narrow-minded statement. He does not have an ability to think about issues on a broader scale.
