Guwahati, 20 January 2019:
Assam Health Minister on Sunday chaired a meeting with the committee of group of ministers from Assam, formed by the home ministry and who have been handed over the responsibility to examine the status of existing tribal people of Assam following the approval of Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill by the Union cabinet.
Also present in the meeting were ministers Pallab Lochan Das, Naba Doley, Tapan Gogoi and MLA Chandan Brahma among others.
The committee has been formed to examine and send the modalities for granting Scheduled Tribes (ST) status to six communities of Assam to the Centre. The main task that has been given to the committee while examining the ST status without harming the rights of the current 14 tribes those are already in the special status category.
Following the meeting, Himanata Biswa Sarma informed that the meet Tribal Sangha on January 28, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) on January 29 and Rabha, Tiwa and others on January 30 and are likely to submit their report on or before February 15.
