KOKRAJHAR: Hagrama Mohilary, the former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief who is eyeing a fourth term, today blamed Assam's Finance, Health, and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for all poll-related violence in the region.

Refuting allegations that his Bodoland People's Front (BPF) party is responsible for the attack on United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) supporters yesterday, Hagrama said, "Himanta Biswa Sarma gave directions for yesterday's attacks, as far as I know. In all 4 districts -- Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Chirang, and Baksa, poll-related violence has occurred after Biswa Sarma gave directions."

Mohilary made these allegations against the Minister after casting his ballot at Debargaon High School polling centre in Kokrajhar district, which is his home Constituency.

Mohilary further added that people have come out to vote in large numbers (over 77% turnout was recorded in the first phase of polling) because of their desire for "peace."

"People have come out to vote in such large numbers because they want peace and prosperity in the BTC region. However, Himanta Biswa Sarma has tried to create unrest here, and he has failed," he said.

The ex-Chief Mohilary then went on to claim that Biswa Sarma has tried to "destroy" him as well as the Bodo community, but has failed in that regard.

Exuding confidence of winning the election from Debargaon, where he is contesting, Hagrama said, "I have failth that we will win in this Constituency. The only other party contesting here is the UPPL and I will win by a massive margin," he said.
