DHUBRI: Abu Taher Bepari, the Congress MLA who represents the Golakganj Assembly Constituency in Lower Assam's Dhubri district, today said that BJP leaders such as Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are crying foul over the 'Grand Alliance' stitched together by the Congress as they are scared that it will come to power after the elections in Assam scheduled to be held later this year.

"Himanta Biswa Sarma has become stricken with fear as he believes that the Grand Alliance will ride to power in Assam post elections. Time and again, he has broached the issue of seat-sharing. Let me just say that we have entered into an alliance with other parties as we already have an understanding with them," the MLA said on the sidelines of a protest against price-rise here today.

The MLA further prophesied that an alliance with the AIUDF will prevent "vote sharing" in some key Constituencies. "In Dhubri, for instance, the Congress has had to swallow the bitter pill of defeat due to sharing of votes with the AIUDF. This time, however, we will be able to register easy victories due to our alliance."

Today, Congress workers across Assam staged protests against the rise in the prices of various commodities such as fuel and vegetables.
