Writing to the Chief Justice of India, the students' body has stated that although the organization is hopeful that the final NRC will include the names of all the legal citizens, including the ones who were left out in the latest draft, the appointment of Dev Sarma has raised apprehensions.
Accusing Dev Sarma of harboring communal sentiments, the student body has said that he has been spreading fake news on social media, about the supreme court monitored NRC process.
Moreover, the student body has also chided Dev Sarma for alleging that there are lakhs and lakhs of illegal Bangladeshis who have been included in the NRC. Moreover, he has also been condemned for a statement in which he had compared secularism to "appeasement of minorities".
The ABMSU has stated that Hitesh Dev Sarma is "prejudiced", and as such, not capable of heading the NRC process. Finally, the body has urged the CJI to look into the matter and resolve the situation as he sees fit.
