An Assam Security Review meeting headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh is to be held shortly in New Delhi today in view of the grenade blast in Guwahati which left twelve persons wounded in the Zoo Road locality area of the State.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has called for a security review meeting which has been scheduled to begin at 11:45 on Monday in the Home Ministry, North Block.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and DGP Kuladhar Saikia who are present at the meeting, are expected the brief the Home Minister about the security scenario in the State.
Various topics on security and what other precautions can be taken is scheduled to be discussed at the meeting by the Home Minister and the team from Assam.
The recent blast raised alarm in the State as the proscribed militant outfit, the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), took responsibility for the blast merely hours after it took place.
Five persons have been arrested so far. The apprehendees include pro-talks ULFA leader Pranamoy Rajguru (suspected ‘mastermind’ of the blast), Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia, ULFA bomb expert Amrit Ballav Goswami, Indramohan Bora, and Chinmoy Laskar.
It is suspected that the ULFA (I) has carried out the blast as a desperate move as the Myanmar Army has started a crackdown against the proscribed organizations carrying out ‘anti-India’ operations on Myanmar soil. Moreover, 24 cadres from militant groups from Assam and Manipur have been sentenced to 2 years in jail.
Moreover, it is believed that the departure and surrender of ULFA(I) cadres due to disillusionment has compounded the woes of the militant group. Moreover, 24 cadres of Northeast outfits (including ULFA-I) were sentenced to jail in Myanmar on Wednesday.
