Indian Army to construct 60-bedded ICU at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital

GUWAHATI: The IV Corps, also known as the Gajraj Corps, of the Indian Army, will construct a 60-bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH).

On the other hand, the Public Works Department (PWD) will construct 256 and 24 new ICU beds at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Kalapahar Covid hospital here, respectively.

With over 4,000 fresh COVID-19 cases being reported daily in Assam, the state is on the verge of facing shortage of hospital beds and ICU facilities.

Assam recorded 4,936 fresh cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, pushing the tally in the state to 2,77,687.

With the new cases, the active caseload in the state mounted to 31,829.

On the other hand, 46 people succumbed to the disease during the period, taking the death toll to 1,531.
