“Jaapi” maker’s daughter Pratibha secures 7th position in Assam 12th boards

Nalbari, May 25, 2019:

In the Higher Secondary examination declared by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Pratibha Baishya from Nalbari Commerce College has secured the 7th position.

Pratibha is a daughter of a local handicraft artist “Jaapi maker” in Nalbari district. Despite the financial crisis in the family, she managed to score good marks in the examination scoring 458 marks. Father Madhu Baishya makes handcrafted “Jaapi” with palm leaves and bamboo. The only source of income in the family is through selling this “Jaapi”.

Meanwhile, Pratibha expresses her desire to be a “Chartered Accountant” in the near future.

It is to be mentioned that this year, in Commerce stream Ashim Sarkar from Vivekanand Junior College of Cachar topped the HS examinations with a score of 474 marks.

The 2nd position has been jointly secured by Nibedita Gogoi from Crescent Academy of Jorhat and Ayushi Jain from KC Das Commerce College of Kamrup(R) scoring 468 marks.

The 3rd position has been secured by Neha Agarwalla from Gauhati Commerce College, Kamrup(R) scoring 465 marks.
