Leader of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Akhil Gogoi, along with 70 organizations on Saturday carried out a protest rally opposing the amendment of controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 from Chandmari in Guwahati, Assam
The confirmation of amendment came after the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Silchar election campaign on Friday in presence of the “Jatiya Nayak” Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The announcement had created a situation of unrest in the state creating a huge rift between the two valleys of the state.
During the rally, Akhil Gogoi said that they would reach out to each and everyone, will visit the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) head office, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) office and urge them all to come together at this time of emergency and fight against the Bill.
Addressing the media, KMSS leader Dhaiyjya Konwar slammed AGP chief Atul Bora and AGP leader Keshab Mahanta and alleged that no Jatiyatabadi leader can be so shameless. He said, “Simply for the sake of money and power, these leaders are still in alliance with CM Sonowal. Since the Assamese community has been destroyed by Modi, Sarbananda Sonowal, than why these AGP leaders have not come out of the alliance? If these leaders really think themselves to be Axomiya and have enough guts, they must join us in Dispur to protest against the Bill.”
He added, “We are frustrated over Sonowal and Modi’s decisions. Sarbananda Sonowal is neither a Jatiya Nayak nor khalnayak, he is the most Kolangkita Nayak in Assam History. And to get rid of this Nayak, we will go to any extent we can, be it immolating ourselves.
