GUWAHATI: Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, slammed the ruling BJP-led government for allowing senior party leader Jitu Goswami, who is facing an inquiry by the CBI, to inaugurate the Maha Mrityunjay Temple at Nagaon. Bhuyan, a journalist-turned-politician, also alleged that Goswami's charges were being overlooked due to his proximity to Assam's Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

"A tainted person like Jitu Goswami, accused in several charges of corruption, cheating and even facing an enquiry by CBI was seen inaugurating the Maha Mrityunjay Temple at Nagaon along with Home Minister Amit Shah," Ajit Kumar Bhuyan wrote in a tweet yesterday, after the puja of the Pran Prathishta Mahotsav and the yagna of the Maha Mrityunjay Temple attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

"Because of his close proximity to Himanta Biswa Sarma, a tainted person like Jitu Goswami was made the Secretary of Reception Committee of such a sacred program. Is this his way of washing away his sins?" Bhuyan wrote in another tweet.
