Guwahati, January 13, 2019:

Assam Congress leader and former Lok Sabha MP from Silchar, Sushmita Dev, has claimed that the violence at the Jawaharlal Nehru Campus (JNU) was sponsored by the Government, and said that the current Vice Chancellor of the University deserves to be in jail.

Addressing the press today, Dev, who is the President of the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC), stated "the JNU Attack was state sponsored, there is absolutely no doubt about it."

It is for certain that the incident that occurred at Sabarmati Hostel from 5:30 pm was pre-planned, there was a criminal conspiracy, the VC was involved, faculty members were involved, they handed the sticks to the assailants themselves, Dev alleged.

"I challenge Delhi Police Commissioner to tell us if they have taken a statement from the people who were severely injured under Section 161 (Examination of Witness). No statement was taken, the witnesses sent their statement of their own accord. What kind of investigation is this?", Dev asked, holding the Delhi Police culpable for the violence.
