Guwahati, December 30, 2018:

Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary on Saturday said that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) should come up with its reports on the proposed controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 soon to take any further steps.

The JPC has announced to hold a meeting on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 on December 31 of this year.

Speaking to InsideNE, Biswajit Daimary said, “The JPC has decided to sit again on December 31 to come up with its report taking account of the MPs, MLAs and opinion of the various organizations and general public. The JPC will take these opinions and do the necessary corrections and the report is very important to take up any step by the political parties too. Even I am eagerly waiting for the reports to be given by the JPC.”

Regarding the alliance with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the MP further added, “The AGP has given only one condition that they will break the alliance only if the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is amended. However the party president has assured that no other factors would affect the alliance.”
