Guwahati, October 7, 2019:

Justice Ajai Lamba has sworn-in as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on Monday at Raj Bhawan by Governor Jagdish Mukhi.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, among other dignitaries.

Justice Ajai Lamba was appointed as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court on Saturday.

Lamba is a former Judge of Allahabad High Court. He is also a former Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Courts.

Born on 21 September 1958, Lamba graduated with Honours Degree in English from Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh. He joined the L.L.B. Course at Punjab University, Chandigarh.

He was enrolled as an Advocate in 1981. Lamba practiced law on civil, criminal and revenue side as well as cases relating to Labour Law, Company Law, Service Law and The Constitution of India.

He was then elevated as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court on 22 March 2006.

Justice Lamba was transferred to Allahabad High Court on 9 December 2011 and elevated as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court on 5 October 2019.
