Guwahati, August 20, 2019:

Will Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao get 'Autonomous State' status soon? Assam's Rajya Sabha MP and firebrand Bodo People's Front (BPF) leader Biswajit Daimary certainly seems to think so!

The Rajya Sabha MP has stated that Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao will soon become Autonomous States, fulfilling the long-standing demand of the tribal communities to do so.

The MP believes that this is because all concerned parties, including the political parties, seem on the same page regarding the creation of Autonomous States.

Talking to Inside Northeast, the MP said that since the creation of Autonomous States is a constitutional provision under the Article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution, it would not be wrong to not follow the provisions.

"Since Karbi Anglong CEM Tuliram Ronghang had submitted a memorandum to Amit Shah right in front of Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, it is evident that the demand for Autonomous States has indeed gained momentum", said Daimary, further adding that "this demand has taken a new turn, as BJP, congress, as well indigenous organizations are demanding an autonomous state, all are united in their demand.."

Daimary believes that the demand has picked up steam as the major political players -- the BJP and the Congress -- are united in their demand for an Autonomous State. "In the past, no political parties had supported this, but the demand has now reached the mainstream", Daimary said.

"In all likelihood, they will get autonomous state, as the BJP party is ruling at all levels of the Government structure right now", said the MP.
