Diphu, October 28, 2019:

The Karbi Student’s Association (KSA) in collaboration with the 4 Seasons Foundation NGO hosted the first-ever Amur Falcon festival in Karbi Anglong. The festival was inaugurated by KAAC EM Pradeep Rongpi on Friday.

The festival, which took place on 25 and 26 October, was kicked off on Friday at Umrukhuti under the Chinthong MAC constituency, in West Karbi Anglong.

"The festival is part of an awareness programme to protect and preserve the Amur Falcon in the region. The winged guests flock to Umrukhuti once in a year, and they are a sight to behold", said Cherishma Rongpipi, the General Secretary of the 4 Season Foundation NGO.

The Amur Falcon breeds in Siberia (Eastern Russia) and in Northern China before migrating in large flocks across India and over the Arabian Sea to a cozy winter in Southern Africa. Earlier, it was treated as a subspecies of red-footed falcon and also known as the eastern red-footed falcon.

The very first Amul Falcon festival in Karbi Anglong was a grand success, however, incessant rain played a spoilsport, as all the programs could not be carried out properly due to the mud and slush.
