Karbi bodies oppose BLT accord

Guwahati, December 14, 2018:

The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) led by CEM Tuliram Ronghang submitted a memorandum to Union Minister, Ministry of Tribal Affairs demanding withdrawal of the terms of clause 8 of the Memorandum of Settlement signed between the Union Government, Assam Government and the Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) in 2003.

They body claimed that providing ST (Hills) status to the Bodo Community is unacceptable and also suggested that it was unanimously rejected in the E.C resolutions.

They reiterated that the Bodo Community are already under ST (Plains) category within Karbi Anglong, Dima-hasao and in Assam as a whole.

The body also met with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and had a prolonged discussion demanding the same.

The minister assured of co-operation in all possible matters and promised to hold talks with the Assam Government regarding the matter.
