Karbi Organisation Demands Implementation of Traditional Village Council

Diphu, September 30, 2019:

Karbi Village Headmen Association has demanded immediate implementation of a Traditional Village Council.

Karbi Rong Asar Amei or Village Headmen staged a sit-in protest at Semsonsing Ingti Memorial park in demand of immediate implementation of Ser Vankep (Traditional Village Council).

The protestors demanded the Traditional Village Council under a Provision mentioned in the Paragraph 2 and Sub paragraph 7 of the Sixth Schedule in the Indian Constitution.

The protestors opposed the Pachayati Raj system in the areas of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts. A procession was taken out from Semson Sing Ingti Memorial Park to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Secretariat office.

A large number of village headmen and other supporters participated in the protest.

They submitted a memorandum to Chief Executive Member, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, stating their demand.
