Kaziranga National Park Authorities Impose Ban on ‘Gutkha’

Golaghat, November 7, 2019:

The administration has imposed section 144 in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) premises, thereby prohibiting the use of ‘Gutkhas’ and ‘Pan Masalas’, and tobacco. The substances have been banned starting today onwards.

The ban has been issued within a 300 metre radius of the Kohora Police Station. Moreover, the local authorities have been seen carrying out drives to prohibit the selling of these substances.

The administration authorities made a visit to the local retailers selling such items and made it clear that these items must not be sold in the area. They further mentioned that on violation of the order, the accused will be charged under different sections for violation.

This comes amid several initiatives undertaken by the Kaziranga National Park authorities to promote tourism in the national park, which is one of the key attractions in the State of Assam.

Recently, Kaliabor Sub-Divisional Administration and the Kaziranga National Park Authority have jointly started promoting eco-tourism, with a touch of tribal ethnic flavours in the areas adjacent to the National Park.

The idea of serving ethnic food in traditional attire, creating possibilities of home stay in the village areas for the tourists, were the key initiatives which were discussed during this drive.
