A joint team of army and Chirang police on Sunday apprehended a cadre of the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (or KLO) in Basugaon under Chirang district of Assam.
On 16 February 2020, based on specific intelligence about the movement of a KLO cadre in Basugaon area adjacent to the National Highway, a joint operation was launched by Indian army jawans and Chirang police. At the end of the operation, the army was successful in nabbing a KLO militant.

The apprehended cadre has been identified as Chitra Barman, a KLO militant who was trained at KLO training camp across the border in neighboring Bangladesh.
Two Sophisticated weapons including a 'made in USA' pistol and ammunition were recovered from the cadre.
It may be mentioned here that the insurgent group is known for carrying out extortion and weapon dealing in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts.
