KMSS Leader Akhil Gogoi Calls for “Result-Oriented” CAA Andolan

Guwahati, February 10, 2020:

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi has been produced at the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court on Monday. He has appealed to the gathering outside the Court to continue protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA.

The peasant leader arrived at the NIA Court at 11:45 AM. AKhil Gogoi greeted the people outside the Court with “Joi Aai Axom” and called for a result-oriented agitation against the CAA.

“Joi Aai Axom! We have to focus on result-oriented Andolan now,” said Akhil Gogoi. The KMSS leader was arrested amid the massive protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA and was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on January 24.

It may be mentioned here that the KMSS leader was arrested by the NIA in December from Jorhat district under the Unlawful Assembly Protection Act (UAPA) and on December 26, he was sent to Guwahati Central Jail of Assam.

Supporters of Akhil Gogoi and majority of the people in Assam have been demanding for his release since his arrest in December, 2019. Students, intellectuals and leaders have also been reiterating their demands to release the KMSS leader.

Protests have continued across Assam demanding Gogoi's release. The KMSS leader has become an icon for leading the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in its initial stage.
