Guwahati, December 17, 2019:

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday was sent to ten days National Investigation Agency (NIA) after a brief trial in Guwahati.

Gogoo, who was tied up like a petty criminal while he was taken to the NIA Court, told the media that, "A conspiracy is afoot to lead the people of Assam astray from the right path", adding, "The Assam Movement against C(A)A must continue...the show must go on."

Gogoi, who has been booked for under the Unlawful Assembly Prevention Act (UAPA) by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), allegedly for “waging war against the nation”, sourced informed.

The incarceration of Gogoi, who has been playing an active role in the statewide protests across the C(A)A, is being seen as a major setback to indigenous organizations protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, that was enacted recently.

Along with Gogoi, the general secretary of the peasant body, Dhairjya Konwar, and other top leaders of the organization -- Lakhyajit Gogoi, Manas Konwar, and Bitu Sonowal, have also been arrested.

Meanwhile, democratic and non-violent protests are continuing in carious districts of Assam, with many regional indigenous and student bodies are demanding the immediate scrapping of the controversial amendment to the Citizenship Act.

Amid the ruckus over the C(A)A the 3-day gana Satyagraha of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has entered its second day, with student leaders all over the state leading the charge against this Act.
