The election fever has nearly come to an end with the candidates campaigning in the city for the last day.
As the Phase-III of the Lok Sabha election will be held on April 23, the candidates of Kokrakhar, Dhubri, Barpeta, and Guwahati have geared up and campaigned for the last time.
In the Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency, as many as 17 contestants are in the fray. Out of these, Queen Oja of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bobbeeta Sharma of the Indian National Congress and Independent candidate Upamanyu Hazarika are some of the prominent names that will contest the Lok Sabha election 2019 from Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency in Assam.
In 2014 Lok Sabha election, BJP's Bijoya Chakravarty registered an absolutely thumping win by defeating Congress candidate Manash Borah by over 3 lakh votes. Chakravarty had earlier won the Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency in 1999. In 2004, a term was won by Kirip Chaliha of INC, but Chakravarty managed to win the next two elections in 2009 and 2014. As of now, in her absence, BJP’s Queen Ojha stands as a strong contestant in the region.
Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency covers ten assembly segments - Dudhnai (ST), Boko (SC), Chaygaon, Palasbari, Jalukbari, Dispur, Guwahati East, Guwahati West, Hajo and Barkhetry.
